"Dylan Howe makes it new...it's as if Be-bop were still hot and wet from it's Harlem womb. Dylan Howe, he plays time from the heart." ROBERT WYATT
"Howe, inspiring and invigorating in any genre " THE GUARDIAN
"You funky bastard" IAN DURY
After a handful of lessons on drumkit from people like Bill Bruford, Dylan's first big break came when he joined The Blockheads in 1997. Up to that point, Dylan had been developing his playing on the London club scene since the early 1990's and developing the contacts that have led to him being one of the busiest jazz/session players in London. His session credits include work with Paul McCartney, Chaka Khan, Sinead O'Connor and Tom Jones; in the jazz world, he has worked with everyone from Gilad Atzmon, Guy Barker, Matt Wates through to Jane Monheit and back.
Since 2001, Dylan has led his own band and now has 4 albums released under his own name including his tribute to the work of David Bowie. On this visit to the Spin, he plays a duet for the first half with the remarkable Will Butterworth on piano; as a duo they have managed a remarkable reworking of Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring and the Firebird Suite – both pieces incorporate improvised sections and dramatic redesigns of the soundscape of the original. For the second set, the band expands to a quartet and play a mix of originals and re-arrangements of Blue Note classics.
An astonishingly versatile and gifted musician with a superb band. Essential listening.
