We're delighted to be starting our own monthly residency at The Hobgoblin and we're equally thrilled to be able to have Neil McSweeney headline our very first one.
Neil McSweeney is a songwriter from Sheffield who started writing his Americana-tinged, folksy solo material while teaching English in Italy. Upon returning to his native Sheffield, he continued to write songs inspired by the likes of Low and Papa M. He sings of lives on the margins: about being thrown out of pubs and phoning a friend who is never there, or asserting his identity by "p**sing" his name in the snow. He sounds something like a cross between Tim Buckley and Leonard Cohen.
“Deeply felt, brooding songs rich in imagery…he has the tools to make a real impact” – The Guardian
