American roots music sensations, The Wiyos made their first major impact on BBC TV with Seasick Steve, filmed at The Barbican’s big Folk America extravaganza.
In 2009, they went out on a 27-date run of US baseball stadiums with Bob Dylan, in 2010, they wowed a capacity crowd at Celtic Connections festival in Glasgow and scored such an outstanding success that they got an invitation to return.
Now a five-piece band with a brand new album, “Twist”, to promote they are back for another UK tour. Reviewers on both sides of the Atlantic have written great things about the ‘live’ performances and recordings. After playing tracks for several times on his BBC Radio 2 programme, Bob Harris told listeners: “This is great music”, The Los Angeles Times said they were: “ A Pure Joy”, while No Depression described them as a “Once-in-a-lifetime experience”.
