Event information

Jazzsteppa are an internationally acclaimed
dubstep outfit who combine cutting-edge
digital production with acoustic instruments,
fusing heavy basslines and rave sounds with
dixieland, jazz and blues, to create a
unique brand of dance music that is widely
acknowledged as innovative by the global
scene. Featured in Time Out London, Tel
Aviv, Bucharest, Chicago, Moscow, and Sofia,
their music has been described as ‘honking
horns and clattering Latin percussion’ (Joe
Muggs, Mixmag) and hailed as ‘a breath of
fresh air in the dungeons of clubs.. the
sounds merge as threads into the mix so
elegantly it’s uncanny’ by German broadsheet
Berliner Zeitung;‘the Gals’ story is just as
interesting as their unique blend of horn-
heaving, sub-smashing beats‘ (I-dj).
They receive regular airplay on national
radio across Europe, and in the UK, creating
special mixes for BBC Radio 1, where they are
supported by DJs Annie Nightingale, Mista
Jam, Gilles Peterson and Huw Stephens.
Jazzsteppa’s pioneering way of working
– they are credited as the first dubstep
artists to perform and record with acoustic
instruments – has set them apart from other
producers: shunning samples, the music they
make and perform is 100% original, recorded
and produced in one of their own studios in
London or Berlin. Previous collaborations
include Borgore, Efrat Gosh, and Foreign
Beggars.
Since forming in 2007, Jazzsteppa have
released seven singles, three EPs and an
album, “Hyper Nomads” (June 2011, Studio
Rockers) to global acclaim. Their releases
have sold over 25,000 copies worldwide.
Jazzsteppa have performed sell-out shows
at renowned venues worldwide, taking
their dynamic and beguiling live show to
dancefloors in cities such as Vienna, St
Petersburg, Tel Aviv, Bergen, Paris, Kiev,
Bratislava, Bristol, Amsterdam, Moscow,
Athens, Prague, Zagreb, Dresden, Ljubljana,
Oslo, Rome, Talinn, Dublin, Edinburgh and
more.
In September 2011 the act led a ground-
breaking 5 date tour of India, playing dates
in Delhi, Goa, Mumbai, Pune and Kolkata,
following on from tours of the US and
recent festivals including the Virgin Music
Festival, Barbados; Glastonbury, The Big
Chill, Glade, Womad and Fusion Festival,
Germany.
