For their summer concert, the Camden Choir will explore the wealth of secular and sacred music produced by British composers during the twentieth century.
Starting with three of Elgar’s songs From the Bavarian Highlands and two of Havergal Brian’s settings of English poetry, they move to Vaughan Williams’ sublime Serenade to Music, which uses words from Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night to evoke the power of music.
In the second half, Howard Goodall’s joyful Jubilate Deo is contrasted to Stanford’s more contemplative sacred motets and the programme finishes with Elgar’s majestic Te Deum and Benedictus.
