Event information

KATY CARR is a singer, musician, songwriter and aviator. Born in Nottingham to a Polish mother and a Scottish English father, Katy Carr started singing in primary school and won several singing competitions before she reached secondary school. During her teenage years she focussed on 'becoming a pilot and flying aeroplanes." I dreamt of flying all the time and was hugely inspired by Amelia Earhart and Amy Johnson.” The RAF Flying Scholarship lead to music school and a creative career was born. She has released four albums - Screwing Lies (2001), Passion Play (2003), Coquette (2009) on Deluce Recordings. Her fourth album Paszport was released in Poland by MJM Music Pl on 17 September 2012 and on Deluce Recordings in Great Britain on 11 November 11th 2012. The inspiration for the songs on Paszport derive from stories gathered from Kazimierz Piechowski about his time in the Armia Krajowa, Polish Home Army and the Polish partisans between 1942 -1945. The Critical acclaim has been amazing :

'Tender and brave in equal measure,' Observer

'One of the most intriguing concept albums of the year' Guardian

'Never less that immaculate' Sunday Times

'This is major.' FRoots

A multi instrumentalist, Katy variously plays a vintage electric Wurlitzer piano, ukulele and banjolele which feature on her recordings with her group, Katy Carr and the Aviators. The current line up includes George Simmonds (trombone), David V Miles (Double bass and Django guitar).Carr’s dulcet and often haunting vocals have been heard everywhere from the Royal Opera House to Glastonbury Festival.

TG COLLECTIVE (Quartet)

"Impeccable musicianship ... glorious sounds and textures ... beautiful and emotional ... this is different and interesting" - fRoots

A quartet from the larger TG Collective, performing an intriguing mix of gypsy jazz, flamenco and contemporary classical originals and arrangements. Following the release of their critically acclaimed new album, Release The Penguins, TGC have popped up in all sorts of weird and wonderful locations - from a live appearance on BBC1 to live session for JazzFM, and Jamie Oliver's Big Feastival to airplay from BBC Radio 3 to KEXP in Seattle! Tonight's quartet features the core of the full band - the two guitars of Jamie Fekete and Sam Slater alongside Percy Pursglove (double bass/trumpet), and Joelle Barker (cajon/percussion).
