Charlie Baker
16th November 2013
Doors open 8.00pm - 9.00pm Start. Ticket Price £12.00
After a fantastic show with Josh Widdicombe here at the Holsworthy Comedy Club a year ago, Charlie Baker is coming back to do his one man show.
Charlie Baker is more than just a stand up comic. Yes, he's a comedian but his talents stretch far and wide including being an accomplished Jazz singer and musician.
In fact, if the Rat Pack had come out of Devon, it would have been Charlie and his cohorts round a table chomping down tea and scones instead of champagne.
Charlie's combination of music and mirth has made him a big hit on the stand-up circuit. After graduating form LAMDA in 1997, Charlie has acted and performed the length and breadth of the country but turned his hand to stand up comedy a good few years later.
In 2005 he was a semi finalist in the BBC New Act of the Year and the following year
was a finalist in both the So You Think You're Funny and the You Must Be Joking competitions. In 2009 his unique talent won him the Edinburgh 'Spirit Of The Fringe' award.
Charlie Baker is what you can only describe as a showman, in fact his Edinburgh show was entitled 'The World's Greatest Show Off'.
His modern take on a traditional profession is entertaining audiences up and down the land, both as a performer and an excellent compere. Charlie's enthusiasm makes him instantly likeable and his musical proficiency make him stand out from the crowd.
Charlie has been known to pop up on the television from time to time. He has had roles in Gentleman's Relish and The Long Firm on BBC and in The IT Crowd on Channel 4. He also made the jump to the big screen, acting in The Boy In The Striped Pajamas.
Talking of jumps, Charlie showed off all his dancing skills in an unforgettable advert for Top Up TV a few years back.
Musically he has performed at some prestigious events, including playing at The Houses Of Parliament, the MTV Cannes Party, The Labour Party 2004/05 Conference and Sir Ian McKellen's 50th Birthday Party. How about that?
Charlie Baker certainly is a unique talent. He has given the age old profession of entertainer a modern twist and from that, there is no one else like him on the circuit at the moment.
Did You Know?:
Charlie Baker's Jazz band is called The Charlie Baker Band. It's not original but enough people have confused him with Charlie Parker to make a decent living.
