Co-creator of Viz Simon Donald and the hilarious Howard Read preview their Edinburgh Festival solo shows

SIMON DONALD

Butch Straight Poof.
In a revealing rummage inside the Viz founder's head, we see a mind housing a three-way punch-up between machismo, heterosexuality and effeminacy.
What makes a proper man? Building shelves? Idly dismissing the concept of feminism? Not crying when you break a nail? It’s certainly not making an appointment to get your hair cut, or drinking Earl Grey tea.
However, if you can wire a plug and you’re not frightened of spiders, do you have license to ride an effeminate motorcycle and wear pink shoes?

‘Former Viz man, as funny with a microphone in his hand as he was with a pencil’ Guardian
'genuinely interesting and utterly hilarious… leaving us paralysed with laughter… will entertain and enthral.' Broadway Baby - FOUR STARS
'Magical… cerebral filth… witty and scintillating smutfest, charmingly enamoured with the childish gag, stimulates all areas.' The List
"superb inventive comedy' The Stage

'gloriously improper' The Skinny

Simon Donald was co-founder of Viz comic and its spin-off swearing dictionary Roger's Profanisaurus. He was co-editor before parting company with the million-selling toilet-humour organ in 2003.
After leaving Viz he wrote and presented on TV, writing and appearing in numerous TV roles, including the One Show, Channel 4 News and One Hour with Jonathan Ross. He has also worked as a pundit for many national and regional TV and radio shows. He moved into full-time stand-up comedy in November 2008.

2013 will see Simon's sixth show at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, his one-man shows at the legendary Stand Comedy Club mixing joke-punctuated anecdotes with some serious research, outrageous songs and cartoon-like character creations.
