Larger than life Nigerian percussionist Lekan Babalola, described by the Washington Post as a “wizard percussionist”, is bringing his band The Afrobeat Messengers to Lyme Regis for a musical and cultural treat.
Babalola has an International reputation as a unique and innovative percussionist, and has two Grammys to his name, one with the late master musician Ali Fakatore. A protege of the late Fela Kuti, he is a master of the Afrobeat Groove, having worked with its founder Tony Allen.
His music mixes contemporary with traditional and features both UK and Nigerian musicians. Reflecting his interest in many musical genres, this gig will feature Kate Luxmoore on Clarinet, Femi Sofela on Bass and Ebenezer Oke on Guitar.
