Event information

Good Sex presents another month of audible sexual music kicking off with three of the UK's hottest emerging acts. When the bands are this good, it counts as aural pleasure so be prepared: these guys will cause you an augasm.

CHARLIE STRAIGHT live
What are the odds that you start a band like Charlie Straight with someone who listens to Beck at the age of sixteen when everyone at your school keeps playing 'Nothing Else Matters'? In a provincial Czech town literally run by a bizarre steelworks it takes some doing. Luckily for us that is exactly what happened and we can't wait to see them at Proud Camden. There is a corner of a foreign field that remains forever Camden Market circa 1994. Singing in what appears to be an imaginary English regional accent, the Czech Republic's Charlie Straight make the kind of joyful, harmony-driven Britpop Britain itself has forgotten how to master. Infinitely more endearing than The Kooks and their ghastly brethren, it would be easy to imagine them sound-tracking the next series of Skins or going down a storm on a sunny afternoon at Glastonbury.

WILDFLOWERS live
Hailing from the West Country, Siddy and sister Kit were raised by nomadic parents. Always on the move, being raised on boats, farms, in caravans and often on protest camps, the Bennett sisters have been strongly influenced both musically and morally by their bohemian upbringing. Influence's from Johnny Cash to The Clash, Patsy Cline to Sublime, meant that Siddy's youth was spent listening to the very best Country and Punk artists. Known for her freewheeling, flower strewn, verbal dexterity, she enjoys singing from dusk till dawn at festivals and parties and even on the beach!

SAUL ASHBY live
Jangly new wave from the heart of London, Saul Ashby has found himself exactly where he wants to be. His music is a vibrant, contemporary twist on the classic guitar-stomp of Elvis Costello, or Orange Juice front-man Edywn Collins. It's infectious stuff, painting a picture of a young man out on the town; seemingly carefree, yet beset with remorse. Songs came to be written above a sex shop, but also overlooking two brothels, a church, and a police station. It's a small, strange world, bursting with potential inspiration.

THE VALAITIS BROTHERS live
Authenticity is key to The Valaitis Brothers' music. Their creativity emerges from the simple desire to communicate ideas and their songs don't pretend to be anything but true to this which, combined with as ardent desire to perform, means they are likely to become an exciting part of an industry into which they can expand. Since the age of 14 Daniel and Matthew have showcased their improving talents in every way possible and on any available stage. From festivals to pubs, these boys perform as though music is a shared birth.

MAN'S AN IDIOT live
New project from original Sons of the Desert man, Johnny Nolan. After a long and refreshing rest in his chair on the porch, he put his songwriting hat back on his head to produce the critically acclaimed album, "A Noseful of Soup". Released in 2012 and recorded entirely on his phone, whilst he was doing something else, and compared favourably with the likes of Tom Waits, The Tiger Lillies and Leonard Cohen, and described as the sound of broken toys in old building.
