The story of Find Me is true. In 1975, at the age of twenty, the girl known in this play as Verity was charged by the police with damaging a chair in a mental hospital where she was a patient. She was sent to Holloway Prison and later to Rampton high security psychiatric hospital from where she could not be released without the permission of the Home Secretary. The play investigates the personality of the girl and the effect of her behaviour on her family, friends and the officials in whose care she was periodically placed. Verity Taylor is thought to have been Autistic.
