A Midsummer Night's Dream

Event information

This Trinity Term, New College MCR will put on one of Shakespeare's
most iconic comedies, featuring the harebrained mix-ups of lovers
Lysander, Hermia, Demetrius, and Helena; the antics of Puck; the
slapstick comedy of the mechanicals; and fairies and magic galore. All
to be performed in the beautiful New College gardens as to suggest
Shakespeare's forest setting inspired by his own forest of Arden
outside Stratford. Re-situated in the early 19th century and inspired
by Romanticism, particularly the work of the Romantic poets, the play
will explore notions of beauty, the definition of "truth," and the
folly, heartbreak, and joy of love. All themes which come to bear in
Shakespeare's work, the lilting poetry of the Romantic poets, and
indeed, our own lives.
