Event information

Two long-standing great friends convene for a rare gig together. Having originally met in Nashville where they worked and recorded together Edwina will be joing Jon for two dates on his upcoming UK visit. One will be in Twickenham.

Edwina Hayes is a singer/songwriter who has been a regular performer on the UK acoustic scene since 1999. Dublin-born, she grew up in Preston before moving to the East coast of Yorkshire as a teenager, where she has been based ever since.
Dividing her time between the UK and America, Edwina's second home is Nashville and in 2005 Warner Brothers released Edwina's debut album 'Out On My Own' produced by Clive Gregson and John Wood.

Since then Edwina has opened several shows for Van Morrison, toured with Jools Holland, Roger McGuinn and Nanci Griffith (and performed twice for Michael Parkinson at his Maidenhead pub!)

In 2008 Edwina released her second album 'Pour Me A Drink' on her own Twirly Music label. Much more acoustic and reflective of Edwina's onstage style, it continues to attract an increasing number of sales and excellent reviews.

Nanci Griffith's June 2009 album 'The Loving Kind' features Nanci's recording of Edwina's song 'Pour Me A Drink' and Edwina's version of Randy Newman's 'Feels Like Home' features in the motion picture 'My Sister's Keeper' (starring Cameron Diaz and Alec Baldwin). Her third album 'Good Things Happen Over Coffee' was released early in 2010.

In this time of style over substance––of reality with a capital "R"––Nashville singer-songwriter Jon Byrd gives us something we can actually use: honesty. "Down At The Well Of Wishes", the Alabama native's second solo recording, is a remarkable work that demonstrates his songwriting and performing skills while remaining refreshingly devoid of pretence. Imagine Gram Parsons or The Byrds had they actually been accepted by the country music establishment, then you have an inkling of the straightforward mix of barroom exuberance and front porch restraint.

In 2004 after relocationg to Nashville he had assembled 'Byrd's Auto Parts', a rambling collective of in-demand players who set about fleshing out Jon's original material. A self-titled cd followed, and the critics loved it:

"A terrifically accomplished, versatile country singer," No Depression magazine.

Jon's songs have also appeared on various compilations.
In 2010, Jon's composition "Silent Night" was the first single from Master Sessions, an Eric Brace and Peter Cooper recording that also featured steel guitar legend Lloyd Green.

Last year Jon's voice could be heard on the Grammy nominated 'I Love', a tribute to Tom T Hall which also includes Buddy Miller, Patti Griffin, Jim Lauderdale, Lloyd Green, Elizabeth Cook, Duane Eddy, and Bobby Bare.

What the critics are saying about Down At The Well Of Wishes:

"Well-structured, full of lovely guitar touches and brimming with clever, mordant songs"––The Telegraph

"Americana the way it was and the way it should be." MOJO Magazine
