Event information

In the Footprints of Wainwright & other Journeys is a two-part presentation by photographer and author, Derry Brabbs.

The first half is devoted to the decade Derry spent photographing seven books with Alfred Wainwright, detailing the joys, trials and tribulations of working with the enigmatic fellwalker. The ‘Other Journeys’ features the medieval pilgrim routes to Santiago de Compostela in north west Spain and also the Cathar Way, a 250 km long distance path across the south of France and over the Pyrenees.
Combing stunning photography, a humorous informative narrative interwoven with tips on technique for keen photographers, ‘In the Footprints of Wainwright & Other Journeys’ is a must for anyone who owns a camera or a pair of walking boots!

Derry Brabbs is acclaimed as one of England’s finest published photographers with thirty illustrated books to his credit. His gloriously evocative portraits of the Yorkshire Dales contributed to the success of worldwide bestseller, James Herriot’s Yorkshire and Derry’s distinctive photographic style was subsequently utilized to outstanding effect in his collaboration with the legendary author and doyen of the Lakeland Fells, Alfred Wainwright, with whom he produced a seven book series on England’s Lake District, Scotland and the Pennine Way and Coast to Coast long distance footpaths. As an author in his own right, Derry Brabbs has produced several beautifully photographed titles celebrating Britain’s unique countryside and its richly endowed architectural heritage, themes that also featured in ‘The Roads to Santiago’, his much lauded work on the medieval pilgrim routes across France and Spain to the shrine of St James in Santiago de Compostela.
