On Sunday 14 July 2013, Black Cat Music, Comedy Untapped and Jamm present
‘Laugh With Mary’ an evening of food and comedy in aid of the Mary Seacole
Memorial Statue Appeal featuring comedy legends Jo Brand, Omid Djalili and Bobby
Davro.

Mary Jane Seacole (1805 – 14 May 1881), was a Jamaican-born woman of Scottish
and Creole descent. After applying to the war office in London to offer her services to
help in the Crimean War and being refused, she travelled independently and set up a
'British Hotel' behind the lines and provided succour for wounded servicemen on
the battlefield. She was posthumously awarded the Jamaican Order of Merit in 1991
and in 2004 she was voted the greatest Black Briton. The appeal is raising money for
a memorial to be erected at St Thomas’ Hospital, London to bring the achievements
of this remarkable woman to life.
