With four distinctive voices of depth and maturity blending together to give warmth and harmony to the English tradition, The Claque formed in the Exeter area in 2006, the individuals involved being Tom Addison, Barry Lister, Dave Lowry and Sean O'Shea. All had sung in previous various renowned harmony groups such as Isca Fayre, Hollinmor, and The Songwainers, and all being involved in the local folk scene, it was perhaps inevitable that they should at some point get together. Having done so, ironically at the funerals of Martin Bloomer, another member of the former two groups, and that of the late, great songwriter and singer, Cyril Tawney, they were excited at the performances they were able to put together, and from such was The Claque born. Interpreting songs from throughout the tradition, but particularly from the South West, they produce a stunning sound, completely a capella, which ably demonstrates the fact that instruments are superfluous in the presence of such harmonic ability. What a way to start the year!
