'Glad girls' is the translation of the Shetland dialect 'Blyde Lasses', and anyone hearing them is glad to do so! Over the last few years, Claire White and Frances Wilkins have toured extensively throughout the British Isles, as well as New Zealand, Canada and the United Arab Emirates! Claire was raised in Shetland, where she was tutored on the fiddle from the age of seven by the revered Tom Anderson. Her songwriting and singing are inspired by her love of stories and a desire to weave more words into Shetland's living musical tradition. Frances is an ethnomusicologist who took up the concertina whilst living in Shetland in the 1990s. Much in demand as a lecturer and archivist, she has a wealth of traditional, often nearly forgotten material at her fingertips. That makes it all sound very dry, but this pair are anything but! With beautiful harmonies and brilliant arrangements, Blyde Lasses are refreshingly different, and have charmed every audience they've played for.
