This is the occasional combination of award-winning Dorset singer James Findlay (now living in Devon - hurrah!) and Somerset accordionist Alex Cumming. James comes from a family of traditional singers, and came out on top in the New Roots competition in 2008, before winning the BBC's Young Folk Award in 2010, since when he has grown immeasurably in his interpretation of English traditional songs and tunes. He has an amazing voice, and distinctive guitar and fiddle styles, which, added to his warmly charismatic personality, draws in his audiences. James has recently released his third album, 'Another Day, Another Story' on one of the foremost 'folk' labels, and has worked at most of the top folk venues and festivals in the country. Somerset musician and singer Alex Cumming has recently completed his music degree at Newcastle University, specialising in folk and traditional music. He is now what might be termed a musical 'tart', playing a number of different instruments, primarily accordion, working with a number of different individuals/groups, with a number of different hats on! Currently, he performs with ceilidh band Dyer: Cumming's (sic) as a musician and dance caller; calls with The New Slide, another ceilidh band; is a musician and caller with the rock folk Kickin Ceilidh Band; sings with a capella quartet The Teacups, and plays accordion and provides backing vocals for James Findlay. As if that wasn't enough, he also organises events, Morris dances and runs workshops! Whew! Anyone that says that folk isn't alive and well in the 21st century hasn't come across these two! Perhaps they should...
