Chris Manners is a singer, songwriter and guitarist who has been devoted to folk music since hearing John Peel play Martin Carthy under the duvet late one night (John in the studio and Martin on vinyl - it was only a single bed). He cut his performing teeth in Barnsley, and over the years was a resident performer at several clubs, including that of the late great Harry Boardman in Manchester. He's now a regular at the renowned Ryburn Folk Club in West Yorkshire. Although a lover of traditional songs, he found writing his own, with on occasions his own particular sense of humour, irresistible, as indeed are his songs - the sort that when they come up randomly on your iPod really make you sit up and listen. They are written with thought and intelligence, and have something to say as well as something to listen to. Chris may not be well-known, but he certainly ought to be - don't miss this rare visit to the South West.
