CECILIA MCDOWALL Great Hills (Sally Telling - violin soloist)
SCHUBERT Symphony No. 9 in C major, 'The Great'

Andrew Morley - conductor
Trinity Orchestra, Harrow

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"... [There] is life in every fiber, color in the finest shadings, meaning everywhere, the acutest etching of detail, and all flooded with a Romanticism which we have encountered elsewhere in Franz Schubert . . . . evidence of an extraordinary talent"

This is how Schumann described Schubert's ninth symphony, which is quite rightly nicknamed "The Great". Trinity Orchestra will present this riveting work alongside music by Russian Romantic composer Alexander Borodin and award-winning composer Cecilia McDowall in this season closing concert with guest conductor Andrew Morley.

Described by the International Record Review as having a "communicative gift that is very rare in modern music", Cecilia McDowall is often inspired by extra-musical influences, and her delightfully varied work Great Hills - a pastiche on baroque techniques - is influenced by the pastoral, historic and literary connections of the Sussex town of Shipley.

Join conductor Andrew Morley for a free pre-concert talk at 7pm, through which you can learn more about the evening's music.
