The Boys are back in town!
Bath’s original ‘King Swingers’ have reunited for a handful of shows in December, this will be the first time the band have performed together with this original lineup for a very long time.
The King Swingers initially formed to play in the Bath Festival over 20 years ago, founded in 1992 by AD Chivers, Russel Crook, Colin Ball, Mathew Borne-Jones, Dickie Davis and Ian Pratt (RIP). The original line-up performed songs made famous by vocal groups such as The INK SPOTS and The MILLS BROTHERS and also songs from the great ‘original’ R&B artists such as LOUIS JORDAN and LOUIS PRIMA with a little CAB CALLOWAY thrown in! They soon expanded their sound and repertoire by adding saxophone and piano to the mix, allowing them to perform the ‘big band’ arrangements of Nelson Riddle made famous by artists such as Frank Sinatra, including songs such as ‘Mack The Knife’ ‘Under My Skin’ ‘Lady is a Tramp’.
Over the years, the King Swingers have featured many of Bath and Bristol’s best musicians such as Clare Teal, Matt Sibley, Anders Olinder, Jerry Crozier-Cole, Ben Waghorn, Ruth Hammond, Brandon Allen, Savio Pucini, Gary Alesbrook, Kevin Figes, James Bateman, Josh Arcoleo, Berry Goddard, Jeff Spencer, Lisa Cherian, Daniel Pennie, Michael Giles and Peter Gabriel (once!)
Collectively, they have performed at thousands of festivals, theatres and events throughout the UK, Europe, USA, China, Korea, Japan, Australia. The band are renowned for their high energy and spectacular stage show with some infectious, high-speed swing music that parallels the energy of 50's rock 'n' roll with all the silk and glamour of 40's swing with style, panache and smiling enthusiasm. Boundlessly enjoyable, brilliantly entertaining, an uplifting and a marvelous reminder of the era of jiving and swing, often bringing the most sedate audiences to their feet, delivered with jubilant energy as well as considerable technical skill, their set will please the dancers, the thinkers, the sober and the drinkers!
“If you wanted an excuse to take your mind off your troubles for a couple of hours, this show is just the ticket."
