Budleigh Assorted Tunes is delighted to welcome country singer/songwriter Laura Cantrell from Nashville, Tennessee as part of her 2014 UK tour promoting her fourth album of original material No Way There From Here which was released in September on the Shoeshine/Spit and Polish record label. Laura will be accompanied by guitarist/pedal steel player Mark Spencer from Country Rock band Blood Oranges.
Longtime favourite of ‘Whispering’ Bob Harris on Radio 2 Laura Cantrell first broke through to a wider audience in 2000 with her debut album, Not the Tremblin’ Kind which was much loved by the late John Peel who described it as his ‘favourite record of the last ten years and possibly of my life". She went on to record five sessions for Peel and dedicated her 2005 album, Humming by the Flowered Vine to his memory.
In the spring of 2011, Cantrell released Kitty Wells Dresses: Songs of the Queen of Country Music, "a recording she made in honor of one of her heroines, the great Kitty Wells (It wasn’t God who made Honky Tonk Angels) taking its title from an original song of Laura's, written in tribute to Wells.
Special Guests for the evening will be the brilliant bluegrass quartet Flats and Sharps from Penzance who, many of you will remember, took the Corn Exchange by storm last year when they supported Port Isaac’s Fisherman’s Friends.
