As part of the Essex Book Festival, Peter Vacher discusses the pleasures and perils of interviewing jazz musicians.
Peterís accounts of some of these meetings are presented in 'Mixed Messages: American Jazz Stories', his newly-published collection. He will bring copies of the book to the Archive and will be very happy to sign them for you.
Peter has been writing about jazz for over fifty years and his coverage of jazz events appears regularly in the jazz press, including 'Jazzwise' and 'London Jazz News'.
He contributes jazz obituaries to the Guardian, has published several books and was a contributor to the New Grove Dictionary of Jazz.
A former director of Jazz Services, he has compiled questions for Mastermind, interviewed over 250 jazz musicians and lectures widely.
His jazz appreciation course has been running regularly for more than fifteen years and he is the music adviser for the long-runnning jazz concert series in Pinner Church.
