Having staged a number of Russian classics (performed in Russian and English) at our theatre in the last three years, we are proud to be doing this production, performed this time with an English speaking cast and which puts a slight twist on the motive of Loparkin, as many Russian scholers have given another reason for the purchase of the land that made up the Cherry Orchard, but always overlooked in performaces done outside of Russia. Put in context, it was what was happening with Chekhov at the time he wrote the play.
