SCARBOROUGH: Queen St Methodist Hall

SAT 3RD MAY, 2014 Doors open at 6.30pm, concert starts at 7.30pm

Jonathan Sage clarinet

TCHAIKOVSKY - Romeo & Juliet Fantasy overture
FINZI - Clarinet Concerto
RICHARD GRANTHAM - Aurora (world premiere)
BIZET - Carmen Suite No.1

We open our Spring concert with Tchaikovsky's Romeo & Juliet overture, one of the most popular in the symphonic repertoire. We are delighted to welcome back Jonathan Sage to perform Gerald Finzi's Clarinet Concerto. Jonathan made a huge impact playing Mozart's Concerto a few seasons ago, so you mustn't miss this opportunity to experience his phenomenal control and effortless musicality.

We are proud to present the world premiere of Aurara, by local composer Richard Grantham. Richard has written works for the Brass Band National Championships recently, but this work is in a new minimalist style that has John Adams overtones.

We close the concert with the 1st suite from Bizet's opera, Carmen. The suite contains many of the famous melodies we all love. Please join us in our glorious evocation of Spring.

Frank James will give a talk about this programme at 6.45pm
