SCARBOROUGH: Queen St Methodist Hall

SAT 19TH JUL, 2014 Doors open at 6.30pm, concert starts at 7.30pm

Dania Alzapiedi violin

GLINKA - A Life for the Tsar overture
SIBELIUS - Violin Cencerto
DVORAK - Symphony No.7

For the final concert of the season we look at the tonal relationship between F major and D minor. Mikhail Glinka's overture to the opera, A Life for the Tsar, is not particularly well known in the UK, but is a charming work full of the great romantic melodies of Russia.

We are extremely proud to welcome back Dania Alzapiedi (Assistant Principal 2nd Ciolin, RLPO) to perform Sibelios's iconic Violin Concerto in D minor. Dania and the orchestra have developed a true understanding of each other so this performance should not be missed!

We close our season with, arguably, Dvorak's greatest symphonic composition, his Symphony No.7 in D minor. It was commissioned by the Philharmonic Sociery of London in 1884 and premiered the following year. The influence of Brahms is unmistakable, but the melodies and harmony are from his beloved Bohemian homeland.

Frank James will give a talk about this programme at 6.45pm
