Warm beats, rich textures and beautiful vocals from the heart of Gizeh Records. Focusing on themes of movement, light, colour and form, the event showcases stunningly evocative pop music composed using 2 thirds natural instruments, 1 third electronic. Held in The Leper Chapel located on Newmarket Road, the event will also house a site-based installation by sculptor Susie Olczak, designed to reflect the many moods and atmospheres of the headlining acts.
// Shield Patterns - http://www.shieldpatterns.com/
Shield Patterns is a Manchester-based duo comprised of Claire Brentnall and Richard Knox. Dusted with delicate vocals and rudimentary beats and loops, Shield Patterns' music is at once wintry and fragile yet suffused with a strong emotional warmth. Their songs are born in sporadic, cathartic bursts, with subtle lyrics inseparably intertwined with trembling piano phrases, tenderly blended strings, and hypnotic synth patterns.
// Gymnast - http://www.gymnastband.com/
Gymnast are Manchester-based duo Cathy Wilcock (lead vocals, guitar) and Chris Lyon (synth, cello, guitar, backing vocals, programming). Since their first live date at the Olympic Park during London 2012, they’ve played numerous gigs in their home city and around the UK. One recent highlight was playing at the top of Manchester’s tallest skyscraper for innovative live music promoters Sofar Sounds. They are currently writing material for their debut album and accompanying singles which are due for release in 2014.
// Gaze is Ghost - http://gazeisghost.bandcamp.com/
Gaze is Ghost is the pseudonym of Irish songwriter Laura McGarrigle, who having spent the last few years skirting between Edinburgh, India, Paris, and Northern Ireland, has finally settled in Cambridge to work on follow up songs to her debut EP Plume. The record is a collection of beautiful, ethereal music, led by piano but accompanied on record by a small band of collaborators that flesh out the sketches into full compositions. Spacious and bewitching soundscapes combine with inventive genre-crossing songwriting; from the skittery, brass-enveloped lounge of Coco-Lico to the angular sitar assault of Grounding Exercise No. 5. In March she will be performing with James Duffy: https://soundcloud.com/jamesduffy-1
