David Bednall: new commission
Works by Elgar and Stanford
This concert brings together the newly-formed Barnes Music Festival Chorus with The Music Makers of London in a programme of Great British Choral Music including a specially commissioned composition from David Bednall.
David Bednall is one of the most exciting composers of the English tradition working today. As an experienced virtuoso organist, David has extensive experience of the English choral tradition. His composition faces the challenge of writing contemporary music in a period that follows tumultuous and radical change. He states “What I admire most in the work of other composers, and have used as the main ingredients for my own composition, are colour and texture. I believe these to be essential in establishing mood and atmosphere.”
David’s compositional language is a result of a number of diverse influences. Barnes residents will be delighted to know that principal among these is the music of Herbert Howells.
