As if one top flight Irish band isn’t enough for one month, Budleigh Assorted Tunes are equally thrilled to welcome, from just over the border in County Sligo, Cathy Jordan and the wonderful 6-piece DERVISH!
With 11 highly acclaimed albums under their metaphorical belt, in just over two decades of tireless worldwide touring, Dervish have become true ambassadors of Irish music and culture, winning a host of music awards on the way, having accompanied both the Irish Prime Minister Bert Ahern on an Irish trade mission to China in 2005, and Irish President Mary McAleese on a State Visit to Latvia and Lithuania.
In 2003 the band were honoured with the Freedom of the Borough of Sligo by Sligo City Council in recognition of their international artistic achievements and their dedication to and promotion of their local heritage.
In 2007 Dervish performed the Irish entry in the Eurovision Song Contest, ‘They Can’t Stop the Spring’.
Dervish’s very special guests for this evening will be singer/songwriter, and massive Irish music enthusiast, PAUL METSERS, perhaps best known to many for the song ‘Farewell to the Gold’, recorded originally, and thence implanted in every club singer’s repertoire, by the great Nic Jones, on his seminal 1980 album ‘Penguin Eggs’. Accompanying Paul will be that complete master of keyboard wizardry Mr JOE WHILE on the acoustic piano.
