DISJUNCTIONS proudly present an evening of live electronic music at the Literary and Philosophical Society of Newcastle upon Tyne with Karen Gwyer, Other Fires, Wilt Wagner and Red Pools.
KAREN GWYER [No Pain in Pop, Opal Tapes]
In 2012 Karen Gwyer released an EP on patten's Kaleidoscope label and an exclusive track on No Pain in Pop's 'The Bedroom Club II' compilation. In 2013 she released her debut album, Needs Continuum, as well as a track for Public Information and an EP on Opal Tapes.
"Composed under the looming deadline of childbirth, the underlying source for the 'labyrinthine plasmic pulsations' in the US-born, London-based electronic artist Karen Gwyer's debut album on cult label No Pain In Pop is impressively unusual and poignant. Moving through organic cyclical rhythms and 'disorientating psycho-physical disequilibria', Gwyer's debut album is a uniquely dark, brooding and slow-burning masterpiece - a result of personal experiences and lifelong musical progressions, a defining record of a transitional period rendered physical."
OTHER FIRES [DISJUNCTIONS]
Other Fires, aka Tim Smith, creates intimate and deeply personal electronic music. He has released a number of limited CD-Rs and in 2013 made his debut live performance supporting Yong Yong at the Star and Shadow. Other Fires is part of the DISJUNCTIONS collective, promoting live music in the north east of England.
WILT WAGNER [A Glimpse of Paradise, NEEN Records]
Newcastle's Wilt Wagner is the semi-improvised live project of Michael Patterson. He makes use of tapes, voice, drum machines, keyboards and a computer to create pure, addictive, dreamy electronic grooves.
RED POOLS [We Are All Ghosts]
Red Pools is deranged electro-clang, beats and bass, rhythms, dance, techno, noise, thump, gurgle and splatter filtered through murky sonic lenses.
