A notable presence on the UK jazz scene since the seventies, saxophonist Chris Biscoe is well known for his collaborations and recordings that pay tribute to the music of some of the giants of jazz. For his visit to Guildford Jazz as part of our season celebrating music from notable jazz composers, Chris is joined by Kate Williams on piano and Stu Butterfield on drums to pay tribute to jazz legends Miles Davis and Charles Mingus.
“Biscoe must be one of the most underrated figures in UK jazz, his unassuming, learned demeanour belying a soloist of passionate (and unfailingly inventive) intensity, whether he’s playing alto or alto clarinet” - London Jazz News
Kate, daughter of guitarist John Williams and recipient of the John Dankworth Award For Talent Deserving Wider Recognition, has a distinctive reputation as both a writer and performer and has released several CDs to critical acclaim as well as being nominated for a Parliamentary Jazz Award in 2012.
“…she makes every note count, and … the music emerges as rich and flavoursome as a fruit cake” – Ivan Hewett, The Telegraph
