FARNHAM: Maltings

SAT 28TH MAR, 2015 7.45 pm

Music Director : Mark Fitz-Gerald

Soloist : Jonathan Ayling (Cello)

Weber : Overture: 'Der Freischütz'
Borodin : In the Steppes of Central Asia
Saint-Saëns : Cello Concerto No 1 in A min
Bruch : Symphony No 3 in E maj, Op.51

For our March concert, we are thrilled to welcome back the outstanding cello soloist, Jonathan Ayling, who delighted the audience with his rendering of the Dvorak concerto in 2011. This time he will be performing the Saint Saëns cello concerto, which was considered by Shostakovich and Rachmaninov to be the greatest concerto for that instrument. The concert will conclude with Max Bruch’s 3rd Symphony, which has been on our ‘requests list’ for some time. Despite being a romantic evocation of the Rhineland, it was in fact written in Liverpool and first performed in New York.
