The EP launch party for "Songs for the Good" the follow up to this year's beautiful Caress EP.
Featuring some special guests to be announced.
Singer, songwriter and guitarist Mehal tells tales of extraordinary souls crossing paths within the universe’s energizing continuum. His live, acoustic EP Caress features powerful melodies and dramatic narratives that explore the universal complexity of human survival around the world and celebrate triumph over life’s challenges. His vivid observational skills as well as his talent for experimentation and for channeling dynamic characters through the deep textures of his voice conjure emotional moments that honor the magic of the artists and storytellers that have inspired him, including David Byrne, Nick Drake, John Martyn, Morrissey, John Lennon and Band of Joy. Mehal’s music is punctuated by clock-like rhythms commemorating the passage of time and is an expression of his deep faith that creating and sharing music with others is a form of worship.
Mehal grew up in musically-fertile landscape of Ireland and, surrounded by folk and blues music, dreamed of becoming a musician and was drawn to the inventive harmonies and animated notes of the guitar. As he learned the intricacies of the instrument, he did session work throughout college and university and began to channel his emotional energy into telling his own and others’ stories through songs, playing in London, Canterbury and Brighton in jazz and blues clubs, restaurants and bars. His artistic voice began to take shape while recording his debut album Oranges and Seals. He became a Baha’i and fully embraced the belief that music forges meaningful bonds between people, regardless of their differences and removes boundaries.
Mehal continues to deliver fresh, insightful songs in collaboration with other Matt Jackson on Drums and Chris Yarwood on Bass and is in the process of recording Songs for the Good an electric follow-up to his first album Oranges and Seals and Caress! The upcoming EP will dive into his blues and rock roots in and feature full drums and percussion. He will be touring Ireland, the UK and the U.S. in spring 2014, performing in cities such as London, Exeter, Bristol, Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh and Dublin. Caress will be released in Spring 2014. Oranges and Seals and Caress are currently available through iTunes and Mehal’s website. Songs for the Good is due for release in July 2014.
