The Flies formed sometime around 2003 in a very loose and incremental way when production team, The Insects (Bob Locke and Tim Norfolk) joined forces with vocalist/musician Sean Cook. Cook had been a key player in Spiritualized (notably on their seminal record, ‘Ladies and Gentlemen we are Floating in Space’) as well as Lupine Howl and currently plays with Elizabeth Fraser and Massive Attack. The Insects are highly regarded as Emmy award winning soundtrack writers for BBC natural history documentaries, films such as “Creep” and “Owning Mahoney”, and TV series such as ‘Wire In The Blood”.

In 2007 The Flies released the critically acclaimed LP, “All Too Human”. Songs from the ‘All Too Human’ LP went on to be used on several films, TV shows and adverts including Roland Joffe’s ‘You and I’, ‘Wire in the Blood’, and ads for L’Oreal. Around 2008, Sean and The Insects began working with Andy Spaceland on The Flies second LP, ‘Pleasure Yourself’. Andy is a producer and musical collaborator, who had worked with both Sean and the Insects in his previous band, ‘Alpha’. Andy is also currently working on projects with Butch Vig, and Mark Stewart (The Pop Group).

As the LP developed, Andy took on an increasingly pivotal role in the writing and production of The Flies songs. After many late night sessions spanning several years, and in-between many other projects, Cook, Spaceland, Locke and Norfolk (together with contributions from long time collaborator and drummer, Damon Reece – Massive Attack, Spiritualized, Elizabeth Fraser) completed ‘Pleasure Yourself’ at the end of 2013.

‘Pleasure Yourself’ is due for release in Summer 2014. It is preceded by the single, ‘One Day My Baby Will Leave You’ which will be released in March 2014 through Library Music Recordings.
