Dave Burland was one of the great interpreters of English traditional folk song in the ‘60s and ‘70s alongside Carthy, Jones and Bellamy. Having retired from the folk scene he has recently be cited by a number of younger singers, including Kate Rusby, and has been enticed out to give the occasional performance. This is one of them.
An evening in Dave’s company is thoroughly enjoyable. He is a raconteur of enormous wit and the quality of his music is … well, just read these quotes:
“Dave is a uniquely calm, gentle and clever singer who makes you feel it is all so amazingly simple. His apparently effortless guitar playing supplies the footing for the whole musical structure. He also has a deliciously wicked sense of humour!” Nic Jones
“I grew up watching Carthy, Jones and Dave Burland, who is a beautiful guitar player, a great accompanist.” Martin Simpson
“The excellent Mr Burland” Richard Thompson
