Matt Henry is a finalist of the second series of BBC’s ‘The Voice’. Hailing from Birmingham, the current London resident has enjoyed a career in the arts, with spells in both music and acting. His principle fervour has always been for singing however, with influences stemming from artists including Otis Redding and Sam Cooke, as well as iconic lyricists such as Bob Dylan and soul legends Amos Lee and Ray La Montagne. His soulful tone, emotive voice and residual showmanship led him to register for the hit BBC TV show ‘The Voice’, and subsequently make it to the blind auditions in front of the four superstar judges.
Singing a rendition of Ray La Montagne’s ‘Trouble’, which has since racked up over a million hits on YouTube, Matt won the confidence of Jessie J, Will.i.am, Danny O’Donoghue, and Tom Jones, who all swivelled their chairs to fight it out for the right to coach him. The original of ‘Trouble’ re-entered the top 30 of UK charts that week, in testament to Matt’s performance. With chosen-coach will.i.am, Matt went on to make it to the battle stage of the show, when Jessie J decided to “steal” him. He then made it to the live shows, all the way to the finals, following huge public support.
