'Outsiders Insiders' is already creating a word of mouth buzz prior to its release, showcasing the upbeat summer grooves and Brazilian influences on her debut, reflecting influences including Chick Corea, Airto Moreira and Portishead.
Emily Saunders, highlighted as one to look out for by Guardian Jazz critic John Fordham, first came to attention with her debut album 'Cotton Skies', gaining her a collection of four star reviews. Widely commented as one of the most distinctive and refreshing voices today. Mixing acoustic & electronics (voice, horns, rhythm), her original music, Brazilian influences, poetic lyrics and innovative production highlight an effortless instrumental vocal style, upbeat grooves and rich sultry sounds. It is not only her masterful voice but her talent as a songwriter, arranger and producer that sets her above the rest, balancing structured composition and expansive improvisation. 2014 has already seen Emily headlining Kings Place in London and after tonight's concert she will host an event and headline as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival in November.
Emily is viewed by many as the UK's counterpart to US vocalist Gretchen Parlato “..she suggests Parlato's confessional feel and Madeleine Peyroux's unhurried note bends.” - John Fordham, Guardian.
“The word is out about Emily Saunders...musicality, poise and ingenuity... Saunders is the real deal... a jazz vocalist with a big future... ” (4 stars), The Guardian, John Fordham
“Emerging vocal star Saunders... a seductive, silky-smooth voice” Timeout
