The Railway Man is based on the best-selling true story of Eric Lomax, a British Army officer who was tormented as a prisoner of war at a Japanese labour camp during World War II. Decades later, Lomax discovers that the Japanese interpreter he holds responsible for much of his treatment is still alive and sets out to confront him It is a powerful tale of survival, love and redemption and stars Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman. John Lowe, also a Japanese prisoner of war, will be available for questions and answers after the screening. He will also display some drawings he did of this time. This event is a fundraiser for Amnesty International and organised by the Ely City Group of AI.
