After our summer break we are pleased to announce that our live music Upstairs and the Red Lion in Manningtree will be starting again on Saturday 20th September 2014 when we will be featuring Brooks Williams and Hart and Sampson.
Brooks is one of our favourite acts at the Red Lion having first played there in 2008. Originally from Statesboro, Georgia, USA Brooks is now based in East Anglia and he has become firmly established on the UK music scene.
Brooks is ranked in the Top 100 Acoustic Guitarists in the world and is one of the most versatile and entertaining performers on the acoustic roots music scene today. He is a proverbial triple treat: a fiery guitarist, a smooth-as-silk vocalist, and stunning songwriter. In February 2014 he was nominated best male vocalist by the UK’s folk specialists Spiral Earth. His style combines roots, jazz, blues, classical and folk.
Brooks has toured throughout the world including the USA, Canada, Ireland, the UK, Turkey, France, Italy, The Netherlands and Africa. Appearances include the Cambridge Folk Festival, Shrewsbury Folk Festival and Cropredy Festival in England, New Bedford Folk Festival in Massachusetts, Celtic Connections in Scotland, and Uncle Calvin’s in Texas. Over the years he has shared the stage with such music luminaries as Taj Mahal, Eddie Reader, Shawn Colvin and Chris Smither, to name but a few. Come along and enjoy his playing and singing and no doubt some entertaining stories too.
We are also pleased to welcome back Lucy Sampson who will be joined by Jon Hart. Lucy hails from Suffolk and is a regular on the local music scene with her well crafted songs, liquid voice and flowing guitar.
