World War One Play 'About The Boys'
To mark the centenary of WW1, Global Fusion Music & Arts with the support of Charlton House and Charlton Triangle Homes will be performing the play 'About The Boys' in Charlton House on Friday 14th November. The play was written by local writer Robert Fanshawe a member of the GFMA writers group and himself a Royal Marine for 30 years. It depicts some of the war experiences of the poet Wilfred Owen mixing facts with the creative idea that some of his men experienced his poetry and the effect the poems had on the solders.
The play is not a celebration of war but a celebration of Wilfred Owen's poetry and the bravery of the men who fought and died during this dreadful war. There is of course some dark humour as soldiers are apt to use in such situations and the occasional four letter word, but this does not detract from this extremely well written and moving play. As well as the support from CTH and Charlton House, the production has been funded by the Arts Council England, which has allowed GFMA to find some very talented professional and semi professional actors for this performance.
A large proportion of the cast and crew have been drawn from within the borough of Royal Greenwich with extra assistance of some creative advice from James Hadrell Artistic Director of Greenwich Theatre. The play is being directed by film maker and director Roozbeth Tavakoli and GFMA Project Manager Louisa Le Marchand, and produced by Robert Fanshawe and GFMA. There is even a debut performance for one of the trustees of GFMA and ex Deputy Head Teacher of Cherry Orchard School Gill Swan, with her moving depiction of Wilfred Owen's Mother; you may need to bring some tissues.
The tickets are £10 or £7 concessions and Greenwich Card Holders available on the door or from 7pm or full price tickets available at www..wegottickets.com. For information phone GFMA on 02088589497
