Event information

Tim Garland first made international waves through his work with Chick Corea. He is Composer-In-Residence at Newcastle University, being one of the UK’s most noted composers and saxophonists working in jazz. Much of his output reflects interests beyond conventional jazz boundaries and he is increasingly acknowledged for large ensemble writing including orchestral pieces. He works regularly with Chick Corea, Bill Bruford’s Earthworks, Acoustic Triangle and his own Lighthouse Project.

Garland was the 2006 Musician Of The Year in the UK’s All Parliamentary Jazz Awards. He is also nominated for a major BBC award for his Lighthouse Trio and the highly acclaimed CD “If The Sea Replied”. Garland has written for the London Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Concert Orchestra, the Northern Sinfonia, Westminster Abbey Choir and many other ensembles that are drawn to his eclectic vision.

The Autumn of 2007 included a 14 date UK tour for Tim Garland’s 14 piece Northern Underground Orchestra alongside a new album. As well as fantastic reviews the tour also included a sold out date at the London jazz Festival.

2008 brings a tour for Tim’s Lighthouse Project with Gwilym Simcock and Asaf Sirkis and an exciting project with the Britten Sinfonia. The project will include Bach’s oboe concerto, a newly commissioned piece written by Tim based on Bach, and some other Lighthouse Project tracks. The Trio are also touring as a 3-piece without the Britten Sinfonia.
