Named ‘Best Jazz Vocalist’ at the BBC Jazz Awards in 2007 and 2004, the UK’s premier male vocalist, Ian Shaw doing what he does best – singing solo (or with hand-picked accompanists, such as guitarist Dave Preston), drink in hand, in a relaxed, intimate setting. Shaw is a superb performer of both other people’s songs and his own, such as featured on his new album of self-penned material – ‘Lifejacket’ – ‘A suite of stories recalling friendships past and present, childhood dreams and dodgy Soho nights’ (Jazzwise March 2008).
