LONDON: St John on Bethnal Green

SAT 2ND MAY, 2015 Doors 7:00pm , Live Music 8:00pm

Jim Causley, Emily Portman & Lauren McCormick

The Devil’s Interval are a trio of singers who gained great popularity in the noughties and were nominated for the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards ‘Horizon Award in 2007 as well as a host of other awards and nominations between them individually. Emily, Lauren & Jim met whilst studying Traditional Music at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. Their recording debut came in 2005 as part of Martyn Wyndham-Read’s ‘Song Links II‘ project (Fellside), followed by the release of their debut album ‘Blood & Honey’ in 2006 (WildGoose). That same year they joined Waterson:Carthy in the studio for their last album ‘Holy Heathens and the Old Green Man’ (Topic) and toured with them for six consecutive years on their annual Frost & Fire Christmas show.

After a brief hiatus the group are reforming for some select concerts, initiated by Eliza Carthy after inviting them to be part of her special Arms Wide Orchestra concert in the Kings Place, London in November 2014.

The Devil’s Interval are well loved for their spell-binding harmonies and passion for captivating story-telling through the medium of traditional song. Their three distinctive voices blend beautifully, bringing new life to some of the old jewels of the folk song cannon.
