Rayna Gellert (USA) is a renowned old time fiddle player, singer and songwriter. Rayna grew up in a musical family and has spent most of her life immersed in the sounds of rural string band music, heartfelt gospel songs, and old ballads. From 2003 - 2008, Rayna was a member of acclaimed string band Uncle Earl and in recent years has been recording and touring as a solo artist. She's also constantly in demand for collaborations with various luminaries from the worlds of folk, old time and bluegrass. Rayna will be joined on her UK tour by the talented multi-instrumentalist Jeff Keith.
Based in North Carolina, Rayna is steeped in the culture of the region and has been a fiddle contest finalist at the fabled Appalachian Stringband Festival (Clifftop) in West Virginia a number of times. Her fiddle albums are widely celebrated in the old-time music community, and she is also a popular and experienced fiddle tutor, having taught at many camps and courses across the USA and Europe. Rayna's musical palette is broad and versatile and she has recorded with musicians in various genres, including Robyn Hitchcock, Sara Watkins, Loudon Wainwright III, John Paul Jones, and Abigail Washburn. UK folk supergroup LAU are fans and have booked Rayna to appear at the LAU-Land event in Bristol this spring.
True North Music is delighted to present Rayna Gellert in the intimate surroundings of Hepworth Village Hall, near Holmfirth on the edge of the Peak District.
