A show to delight gardeners and non gardeners alike, Peter Macqueen lives in Cumbria and performs regularly at the Theater by the Lake in Keswick.
This is a simple one-man show in which Herbert Pinnegar reflects on life as he spends his final days in his beloved greenhouse. The gently humorous touching play tugs at heartstrings and tickles ribs without resorting to cliche. Macqueen draws the audience into the gentle world of Herbert...
News & Star
"...Macqueen brings an enchanting mix of good humour and pathos to the role...the ease with which he fills the role is probably because he has a secret : Macqueen is a gardener himself. Josie Lawrence and Ainsley Harriet are among his clients and his green fingers ensure he brings a confident air to the performance. As he tells tales Macqueen peters around the greenhouse taking cuttings, sowing seeds and mixing fertiliser with a dexterity normally only demonstrated by street magicians.... The show will undoubtedly conjure up happy memories off listening to Grandad in the potting shed and a more pleasant way to spend a couple of hours is hard to imagine.
It's Downton Abbey with gardening tips - what more could the modern theatregoer ask for?
"...the story overflows with warmth, love and pathos which tug at the heartstrings... all of this would count for nothing without a good central performance and that was delivered so well by Peter Macqueen... He managed to be charming, stubborn and witty...it was both touching and funny....and thought the performance he managed to show his gardening skills.
