Powerplant + Elizabeth Walling + Stanford Quartet (Live Sets)
DJ Sets by Andy (Nonclassical Records) + Will Dutta
Led by genre trashing British percussionist Joby Burgess, Powerplant explores hi-octane percussion-led music with an electronic sound and strong visual performance.
Since making its debut in 2005, the trio has performed throughout the United Kingdom fusing together seminal contemporary works alongside improvisation, remixes of electronic dance music pioneers Kraftwerk and in 2006 was one of the few ensembles invited to perform at Steve Reich's Barbican birthday celebrations 'Phases'.
Powerplant will present tracks from their forthcoming debut album including, Steve Reich’s Electric Counterpoint, Javier Alvarez’s Temazcal and their own material.
Elizabeth Walling is a Brighton based musician/composer and the vocalist/flautist/autoharpist with her 6-piece experimental outfit, A Scandal in Bohemia. She will be joined by her fellow bandmate, Ed Briggs, an ambidextrous and multi-talented composer/musician who will transform
her live soprano vocals and instrumental improvisations on flute and autoharp into a strange and allegorical soundscape using a range of analogue and digital
electronic instruments.
The Stanford Quartet starts the proceedings with Janacek’s stunning String Quartet No. 2 ‘Intimate Letters’.
