PSaturday 25th October, 2008
N7:30pm

Event information

Next term we're going to burst the bubble for Oxjam, in a special charity gig to be hosted at Van Mildert College we'll be showcasing some of the best local and breaking indie/electro bands out there.

You can get full details, including more details on the bands, etc, from our website http://www.weburstbubbles.com/

*** THE BANDS ***

KAROSHI BROS
http://www.myspace.com/karoshibros

The Karoshi Bros are Sam & Dan Burt whose genetic makeup is responsible for this electro, trip-hop and hypnotically funky pop mesh of sound. They both started off in a rock outfit with Lucas (now of Maximo Park) then changed their sound direction and are now Newcastle’s very own answer to Justice.

The Karoshi Bros are currently only performing at a select few gigs whilst they work on their forthcoming album, they’ve also recently enjoyed a lot of public airplay, with Fatboy Slim playing their “Love The World” single at the O2 Festival, and Pete Tong giving it is national radio debut on Radio 1.

MOTION THEORY
http://www.myspace.com/motiontheoryband

Motion Theory are a progressive hard rock band based in Durham, England. Formed in 2007 after meeting at university, the band has rapidly established themselves within the regional music scene with their powerful, ethereal sound that blends both technicality and tone. They recently supported Frank Turner at "Jam By The Lake" and are currently working on their debut album.

SMALL SCREEN LIGHT SHOW
http://www.myspace.com/thesmallscreenlightshow

"Another awfully young, awfully good band. They sit somewhere in between that emo-ish indie fightpop sound and eighties poppy Cure-ish indie…” is how XFM recently described Small Screen Light Show. Based in Seaham, Co. Durham they’re playing a string of gigs in the North East this summer, and with recent airplay on Radio 1, they’re definitely one to watch out for in the future.

THE HARRINGTONS
http://www.myspace.com/harringtonsband

Featuring one of Mildert’s own on bass, but based all the way down in St. Albans these guys have some dangerously addictive indie-pop tunes. They’re going to be hitting the university circuit hard this year, so look out for more from them through the year.

*** THE VENUE ***

This, our debut event under the ‘Bursting the Bubble’ name will be hosted at Van Mildert College, part of the University of Durham. Student bar means student prices so this will definitely be a bargain night for both entertainment and beverage consumption.

Going on in the bar area at the same time is the annual Mildert Oktoberfest, so there'll be a wide range of regional ales and ciders on sale from a special temporary bar.

We’ve also lined up some very special DUCKtails (cheap cocktails) and a BBQ, the proceeds from both of these will be going straight to charity. There’ll also be band merchandise on sale and a chillout area for those who would rather lounge back on a comfy sofa and enjoy the music.

*** AFTER PARTY ***

After the gig we’ll be heading straight down to Fishtank (dragging all the bands with us!) where there’ll be an INDIE / ELECTRO CLUB NIGHT especially for Bursting the Bubble, with FREE ENTRY for gig-goers and DRINKS PROMOTIONS.
