MARK STEEL has performed as a stand-up comedian on the British comedy circuit and on national tours since 1983. He has also written and performed four series of The Mark Steel Solution (Radio 4) and four series of The Mark Steel Lecture (Radio 4)- a collection of absorbing, half-hour profiles of historical figures. The television version of ‘The Mark Steel Lectures’ ran for three series on BBC4 and was nominated for a BAFTA Television Award.
Mark has written three books with a fourth book ‘What’s Going On’ due to be released later this year. When not writing his weekly column for the Independent or broadcasting for the BBC, Mark can be found watching Crystal Palace play football during winter or following Kent County Cricket Club in summer.
‘Steel is actually hilariously really funny. He also likes cricket, a pint and revolutionary socialism. In other words, he is the perfect human being and I want to stalk him.’ (Nicholas Lezard – The Guardian)
‘Mark Steel is the funniest Marxist since Groucho. He is bolshy, belligerent and bloody hilarious’ (Francis Wheen – The Guardian)
‘If only all subversives were like him’ NME
