Event information

DAVID CRONENBERG’S WIFE – www.myspace.com/davidcronenbergswife

With the release of one of the finest debut albums and singles of 2008, ‘Bluebeard’s Rooms’ & ‘Runaway Pram’, DCW have delivered on their mighty potential. An incendiary live act fizzing with explosive tension they sing about themes that haven't been much covered yet: loving an anorexic girl and the urge to jump in front of trains set to a soundtrack that embodies the dark energy of late 70's Manchester and punk psychedelia.

‘For sheer scope and lyrical intensity, David Cronenberg’s Wife have made one of the best albums of the year.’ —The Fly

Candythief – www.myspace.com/candythief

Candythief grew up bumping along pothole filled roads in south east Spanish sierra being forced to listen to her mum's Dolly Parton cassettes and her dad's medieval madrigals. In 2007 released the wonderful Like/Unlike on Fence Records, their second, Technicolour Wilderness will be here soon. Psychedelic prog-folk meshed into a wondrous meld of Kim Deal, Kristin Hersh and The Carter Family.

The Cedars – http://www.myspace.com/theonlycedars

Describing themselves as a knifeblade scraping down against the iron in your soul and a bluesy Americana throwback, The Cedars have taken London by storm with their combination of outlandish vocal talent and Calvinist work ethic.

“Shuffling, rootsy Americana 'n Country offset nicely by singer Chantal's beautifully silky, lilting voice - singing songs about "dirt and shame in that stony ground”. Live, the band take on a more raucous feel, like the soundtrack to a wild, liquor-fuelled hoe-down.” - MusicMart

Congregation - http://www.myspace.com/congregationband

Congregation have lately been injecting the Blues and R&B genre with a heavy dose of class and soul. Benjamin Prosser (Slide Guitar, Bass drum) and Victoria Yeulet (Vocals, Leg Bells) play the kind of raw, slinky and seductive blues that have the power to restore one’s faith in the genre. Victoria wails away with a voice that never fails to chill. ‘21st century Londoners Ben Prosser and Victoria Yeulet look like slightly disturbed depression-era rejects and make self-composed, clammy goth-a-billy. The blues have never lost their ability to inspire faith’ The Mirror

MJ HIBBETT – www.myspace.com/mjhibbett

Observational pop musings from a national institution…MJ Hibbett tells you a story of life, from the mundane to the bizarre, the poignant to the joyous, it is all there backed by glorious pop melodies. He has toured the world, features regularly on Lamacq, done an acclaimed run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with ‘My Exciting Life in Rock’, released one of the best LPs of 2006 (We Validate!) and had a number of download smashes including "Hey Hey 16k" & “Do the Indie Kid”.

DJs – Let’s go baboon – www.myspace.com/stubaboon

Yes, we’ll be DJ-ing, probably mangling up some fine tunes whilst we swagger with our mince pies and Christmas brandy. Expect The Housemartins to do battle with Pavement between tunes from our favourite Let’s go baboon acts over the years.
