THE TOUCAN PARTY[http://www.myspace.com/thetoucanparty]

Ooooohh check it out, we’re putting on some bands that aren’t going to tear the enamel off of your teeth! Headlining we’ve got GREAT ESKIMO HOAX who play a similar brand gentle, mathy rock to the likes of This Town Needs Guns, Pennines and Foals (GREAT ESKIMO HOAX’s recent touring partners), to this end their songs contain an abundance of the twiddly melodies and angular guitars that have been defining the scene recently. However, GREAT ESKIMO HOAX compose their music with a far more accessible and tuneful edge (check out Coma Rhythms) to that of many of their contemporaries and so they bring a far more beautiful, poppy elegance to the crowded (and let’s face it poorly defined) math rock scene. Have a listen to their first release ‘Of Many Victories’ available via their MySpace.

BEST ENDINGS were born of the remains of our favourite noisy ruffians from Derby, YoNoGoDie, who sadly DidGoDie last year. But we won’t be shedding too many tears because BEST ENDINGS are more than the sum of their parts and are back even stronger with a great line up and plenty of new tunes that explore some intricate, delicate post punk that sits comfortably somewhere between Fugazi, Dinosaur Jr and Youth Movies.

OK when I said there would be no enamel tearing moments I may have be exaggerating slightly, DOUBLE HANDSOME DRAGONS do crank their amps past 11 but in a way that won’t have you calling BUPA for a cavity check. The dynamic of their instrumental post- rock does however build layers of thoughtfully crafted guitars and the odd bit of electronica into an intense soundscape that echos the likes of Explosions In The Sky and Godspeed.

THE TOUCAN PARTY are fresh out the box having only formed at the end of last year however they craft a mature sound built around some thundering riffage that references everyone from Lightning Bolt to Trans Am with a whole lot of Sabbath thrown in for good measure.
